New Year's Eve 2000 at Sun River and Mt. Bachelor

The trip started with an inauspicious omen: a truck promising 2200 non-stop miles with an accordian.

Eric and Kathy didn't seem bothered by the accordian sighting. Eric and Kathy didn't seem bothered by the accordian sighting.

Once at the house at Sun River, primary amusements were reading, Tangrams, and the SuperSphere kit (or whatever it's called).

Snowgirl was the mascot, spokesperson, and guardian of the house.

On the last day of boarding (the 31st), I finally summoned the courage to bring my camera up to the slopes. Sadly, Kathy was sidelined with torn cartilage in her knee, courtesy of a nasty fall on the first day, and Forrest and Tamara opted out for the day. So the pictures are of only Eric and I. But the final day was exactly like the previous three, in terms of weather and snow conditions.

After a number of runs down Red Chair, we wandered over to the far western side of the mountain, for a couple of runs down Northwest Express. Here is a shot very near the top, with the Sisters in the background. Eric is at the bottom left adjusting his bindings, and a skier (in blue) is in the middle, collecting his gear after what I would describe as a sliding yard sale.

Near the end of the day, with long shadows. This is near the top of Red Chair, although we'd come down from Outback Express. Through a trick of light and shadows it looks like Eric has a large icicle through his head. Definitely my favorite shot of the Sisters.

Last run... Last run...

That night was, of course, New Year's Eve.

Once home, I had to wash the truck.
